[...] With Vista, Microsoft has given a unique opportunity for the competition to catch up with them because of various reasons. The most important reasons are the fact that the quality of the OS isn’t very good, the absurdly high prices, the fact that there is no (compelling) reason to upgrade, the anti-consumer DRM “features” and locking down the OS with Software Craptection Platform which will backfire on them. People are already writing about the fact that Apple should now take a chance and start supporting Mac OS on third party hardware: THE INTRODUCTION OF Microsoft Windows Vista and its’ many confusing and progressively expensive flavors has opened up a er, period of opportunity for Apple (formerly Apple Computer). Will Steve Jobs take a really bold chance to increase his market share or just play it safe with his little fiefdom of iPods, iTunes and forthcoming iTV? [...]

[...] Keep in mind that a lot of the things discussed there are also still at their version 1.0 stage of development, and it will only get worse as this technology matures. You can compare it to the way Microsoft changed Windows Genuine Crapvantage and Product Craptivation in Windows Vista and made things more complex for systems administrators in the end. Apart from the technology being in its infancy, much of it was also left out of Windows Vista because it wasn’t ready yet. This includes large parts of Next Generation Secure Computing Base (NGSCB). So if you think what is discussed in that paper is already really bad, this is to remind you of the fact that it’ll get much worse in the future if Microsoft continues their current policy.
[...] And there you have it. This is as good as the FCKGW DevilsOwn Windows XP release which I wrote about not too long ago. Microsoft was only able to solve that problem by blocking the FCKGW key with the first service pack for Windows XP. This time, they might be able to block users activating through the local KMS much earlier through Windows Update and Windows Genuine Crapvantage, but that’s only going to work for those who try to download updates from Microsoft.
[...] I mentioned before in a previous post that in my opinion the prices for Microsoft’s latest version of Windows, called Windows Vista, are way too high. The Business version costs about $300 while the Ultimate version costs an incredible $400. If you thought those prices were high, you’re not going to believe the following. [...]

Personaly i think that Microsoft has the right to do this. I even like to idea of finally selling licenses in my country just because there is no other way for users to run Vista.
But they are forgetting one IMPORTANT thing. There are countries were Internet is not available every where. And even in countries with Internet for obvious reasons users may not like to connect to the internet. Then again i could have no internet access and no access to phone or at least international phone lines. How does Software Craptection platform cope with this. How will i activate and reactivate my Vista. Shall i need to travel 100 miles over dirt roads and rivers just to get somewhere with Internet access to re-activate when the grace period pass. Is there any alternative. Can we please go back to Win311. At least i could understand and solve most of it crashes and it did not have any crap in it In fact it did not have much at all. In the end i will have enough motivation to brush up my Linux skills.
